NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – WAVY.com has followed closely the story of Jenny Hatch, a young woman with fully-functioning Down Syndrome who has now been forced to move from one group home to another.
Jenny, who was at first assigned to a group home with court-appointed guardian The Jewish Family Service, has been moved to the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins campus for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Although the move is in the right direction toward Jenny gaining more freedom, Jenny still wishes to live with her close friends, Jim Talbert and Kelly Morris. Jenny called Talbert after the group home move.
“I want to come home,” Jenny told Talbert in a recorded phone call.
Those supporting Jenny in court have finally joined forces and are set to meet in December.
If successfull, the meetings could determine court-appointed guardianship unnecessary.
